Hello. My name is Mike Breazeale and I would like to welcome you to my website. I live in Iowa City, Iowa. I was born and raised in Iowa and have lived in Iowa City all but about three years of my life. At Iowa City West High School I was in band and orchestra, and played and sat first-chair trombone. I was also on the newspaper and yearbook staff where I was head photographer for a year. During the summer, I took classes at the University of Iowa in journalism and photography, and won a couple of awards. I was also published in the summer magazine from the workshop. In addition, I worked at Henry’s restaurant—the best fast-food in the Iowa City/Coralville area!

After graduation, I worked for and then managed a glass shop in Iowa City (home office in Cedar Rapids) and had the top sales over all other branches for the last five years I worked there. I quit to start my own glass business and called it Glass Express. For the first couple of years things were going very, very well and then I started having health problems. I was unable to continue working in the glass business. For 12 years I battled this sickness and could not even drive for two to three of those years. In that time I decided to start brushing up on my photography and started Breazeale Photography part time. I really learned most of what I know from reading books and magazines, and by using the trial and error method. I have taken a course or two in photography to get back up to speed, and learned about digital imaging. I continue to learn more every day. My little part of the world is now called Breazeale Photography/Studio 412…soon to drop the Breazeale Photography altogether.

I have always been very interested in photography. I got started taking photos on our family vacations when I was young. We would go to some great places, and at that time I wanted to be a photographer for National Geographic magazine (and still do!). Every time our family would go to a family reunion, some of my uncles would have their cameras out and take lots of photos. They still do, and it’s the greatest thing. I have the greatest family in the world.

During and after high school I photographed a lot of concerts in and around the area (Grateful Dead, Cheech and Chong, Allman Brothers Band, just to name a very few), and did all the processing in a darkroom in my basement. I was the photographer for the ICON newspaper (which is Little Village at the present time) for about four years. I have also had my photographs published in the Daily Iowan and Des Moines Register. I have worked for the University of Iowa Museum of Art and had photographs published in their magazine and calendars. I photographed Museum events for many years and also photographed the Museum’s entire collection for their database (soon to be available via the internet).  I photographed the Grant Wood house here in Iowa City for a publication.

When I started Breazeale Photography/Studio 412 I was photographing a lot of models and really loved it…and hope to do more of that in the future. I have helped many models with their portfolios over the years. I also shoot seniors and have a great time with that. I specialize in intimate and in-studio motorcycle photography. I have recently finished a total remodel of my studio and it is a great place to work. It is also my photography gallery where anybody can come and just look at my work. I do realize that some photographers don’t have a studio to work in so they say they prefer to work on location. I will do both studio and location work because I love both…they each offer fantastic opportunities! Location can be at your home, office, park, the woods, or wherever you feel comfortable. Part of my studio is my art gallery as I stated above. So, come on by and take a look at my state-of-the-art studio. Even if you don’t need photographs taken at this time, feel free to stop by and see my work. I do traditional photography with a choice of several backdrops and props in-studio. Or, you can bring your own props. I have a lot of lights, and as they say…“photography is painting with light.”

At Breazeale Photography/Studio 412 we try to provide you with memories that you will treasure for years to come. Whatever your needs are—commercial/product photography, a model portfolio, senior photographs, pet photos, a special portrait, an intimate photo for that special friend or spouse, or a motorcycle—I am interested in giving you a very fair price…that I’m pretty sure no one can beat. I don’t make you buy a minimum order of anything; you have a one-session price. If you want to purchase additional services, that’s entirely up to you. I would be more than happy to print your favorite photos from your session or order them from a lab. Or you can take the disc you get with your session and get the photos printed wherever and however you like. Please ask for recommendations on where to have your photos printed.

In Memory of Bruce

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand, when I heard Him call.
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day.
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks undone must stay that way.
I've found my peace at the close of the day.
If my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Oh yes, These things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full. I've savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me--
God wanted me now. He set me free.

My mother called me on Christmas eve 2001 early in the morning to tell me that my brother had passed.
I sat there in the kitchen and all I could think of was what a great loss it was. I turned to the best thing
I know to get past the hard times, and that's music. Bruce was the same way. Music was his life.
I turned on the radio and a song came on, by Rascal Flatts, called "I'm Movin' On."  What a great
song...and it echoed Bruce almost to a tee. I cried most of the morning...Wow, what a great song.
Wow, what a great brother, son, husband, and friend. I will never forget my brother ( Bruce, I love you )
and will think of him every day, and even more whenever I hear "I'm Movin' On."

I'm Movin' On

I've dealt with my ghosts and I've faced all my demons
Finally content with a past I regret
I've found you find strength in your moments of weakness
For once I'm at peace with myself
I've been burdened with blame, trapped in the past for too long
I'm movin' on

I've lived in this place and I know all the faces
Each one is different but they're always the same
They mean me no harm but it's time that I face it
They'll never allow me to change
But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
At last I can see life has been patiently waiting for me
And I know there's no guarantees, but I'm not alone
There comes a time in everyone's life
When all you can see are the years passing by
And I have made up my mind that those days are gone

I sold what I could and packed what I couldn't
Stopped to fill up on my way out of town
I've loved like I should but lived like I shouldn't
I had to lose everything to find out
Maybe forgiveness will find me somewhere down this road
I'm movin' on

I'm movin' on
I'm movin' on
